Taylor Swift and Disney team up for The Eras Tour and Netflix is left ‘pining’

Taylor Swift has sold the rights to ‘The Eras Tour’ film to Disney+, despite some very strong offers from other distributors such as Netflix and Universal.

Swift’s concert film grossed more than $261 million worldwide in its theatrical run.

Disney paid more than $75 million to the West Reading, Pennsylvania-born celebrity. Now, it will be available on the entertainment giant’s platform on March 15.

The “streaming” version will be titled as ‘Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’, which will include the song ‘Cardigan’, from her album ‘Folklore’ (2020) and four additional acoustic tracks that have not been disclosed.

“We know audiences are going to love the opportunity to relive the electrifying ‘Taylor Swift: Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’ whenever they want on Disney+,” said Disney Chairman Bob Iger.

The film was released globally on October 13, 2023 and is based on the singer’s international tour.

It became the highest-grossing concert film in history, grossing $123.5 million in its first few days.

The release thus surpassed the record of Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’, which grossed $74.25 million in 2009, and in December 2023 her tour became the most lucrative in history by being the first to gross more than $1 billion.
