Tim Kuniskis to Retire as CEO of Dodge and Ram

Tim Kuniskis, known for his role in promoting the iconic Hemi V-8 and hosting MotorTrend’s Last Call drag racing event, is set to retire from his positions as CEO of Dodge and Ram in the U.S. this June. His departure comes amidst a significant shift in Stellantis’ corporate strategy towards smaller internal combustion engines and electrified powertrains.

Leadership Changes at Stellantis

Replacing Kuniskis at Dodge will be Matt McAlear, who currently leads the automaker’s sales operations. Chris Feuell, the current CEO of Chrysler, will take over Kuniskis’ responsibilities at Ram. This leadership transition is a crucial step for Stellantis as it navigates the evolving automotive landscape.

Kuniskis’ Impact and Legacy

Kuniskis has had a dynamic career within the Stellantis family, with notable roles including overseeing Jeep and Alfa Romeo in 2018 before returning to Dodge in 2021 and adding Ram to his duties in 2023. Under his leadership, Dodge maintained its performance-oriented brand image, notably with the introduction of the Dodge Charger Daytona EV muscle car.

He is celebrated for launching high-horsepower models featuring the Hemi V-8 engine, a hallmark of performance and power. With the discontinuation of the Hemi V-8, Kuniskis led the development of its successor, the Hurricane family of turbocharged inline engines. These engines are featured in the latest 2025 Ram 1500 and the upcoming Dodge Charger models.

Market Challenges

Despite Kuniskis’ efforts, both brands face challenges. According to the Associated Press, Ram sales have dropped over 29% this year due to factory retooling, and Dodge sales are down more than 17%, even with the introduction of the new Hornet SUV.
