could have a different title, as teased by director Shawn Levy.
- The first trailer for Deadpool 3 is expected to be released during Super Bowl LVIII.
- Levy playfully teases that revealing a new title could result in his own murder by Ryan Reynolds, emphasizing their close collaboration and friendship.
Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy teases that the movie will have a different title. Between Deadpool making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, and Hugh Jackman reprising the role of Wolverine from the X-Men movies as he faces off against the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool 3 has become one of the most highly anticipated projects not only for Marvel, but for the entire entertainment industry in 2024. The first trailer is expected to be released during Super Bowl LVIII.
While speaking with Screen Rant on the red carpet for the Directors Guild of America Awards, Levy was asked about the title for Deadpool 3. The director playfully teases that a different title could be revealed soon, but noted that he has to be careful with what he shares at the risk of “my own murder” at the hands of Reynolds. Deadpool 3 marks the third collaboration between Reynolds and Levy. Read Levy’s response below:
Not yet. You see, it’s the first pause in this interview, because that’s how careful I need to be. Not yet, but maybe it will soon. Was that coy enough? I feel like I was going for like disingenuous coy. But I truly love my collaboration and friendship with Ryan Reynolds, and if I tell you anything, that friendship will end in murder. [Laughs] I don’t want my own murder, especially by a nice Canadian like Ryan Reynolds.
Deadpool 3 Could Be The Biggest Movie Of 2024
The intrigue surrounding the title alone is an indication of how Deadpool 3 could become the biggest movie of 2024. Except for 2020, when no MCU films were released due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MCU has released multiple movies in theaters every year since 2013. In 2024, Deadpool 3 is the only movie on the MCU’s theatrical slate, which is already bringing more focus and anticipation to it than many of the franchise’s other movies in years.
The popularity of Deadpool and Wolverine, along with the popularity of Reynolds and Jackman, has already led to significant speculation and excitement, the likes of which arguably haven’t been seen in the MCU since the buildup to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Of course, the film industry goes far beyond the MCU, with plenty of other long-awaited theatrical releases this year, including Dune: Part Two, Inside Out 2, and Wicked: Part One. While all these movies will likely do well at the box office, none of them have quite the same widespread appeal as Deadpool and Wolverine bring.
can be streamed on Disney+.
As seen with the record-breaking success of Barbie in 2023, creative marketing is also key to creating a box office hit. The hilarious video Reynolds released on his social media alongside Jackman in 2022 started the marketing off strongly. As the July 26 release date draws closer, a clever title that fits with Deadpool’s tone will only make the marketing for Deadpool 3 stronger, and even has the possibility of being revealed when the first trailer is expected to drop during the Super Bowl.
